Stellantis' BOW Concept Has No Driver, No Cab, and Almost No Specs — So Why Am I Intrigued?

It's a rolling cargo container with autonomy baked in. That sounds like a joke until you remember how last-mile delivery actually works.

When You Remove the Cab, You Remove the Compromise

Stellantis rolled out the BOW concept this week, and on paper it reads like a meme: an autonomous electric box with no driver compartment, no steering wheel, and precious few hard numbers attached. In person — or at least in the photos — it looks like what happens when a logistics engineer stops pretending people need to sit in the front of a van that only ever stops at curbs.

What We Actually Know

Stellantis is positioning BOW as a last-mile and campus-delivery platform. The company hasn’t published a full spec sheet yet; range, payload, and production timing are still vague. What is clear is the design intent: maximize cubic volume, minimize everything humans touch during repetitive routes, and let autonomy handle the boring miles between drop points.

Why Automakers Keep Chasing the Box

Delivery margins live and die on utilization. A human driver is still the most flexible part of the system, but also the most expensive and the hardest to scale during peak season. A cab-less EV platform is an admission that, for certain routes, flexibility matters less than cost per stop. That’s not a consumer story — it’s a fleet CFO story — but it explains why Stellantis is showing this now, while Brampton and other assembly drama still dominates headlines.

My Take

I wouldn’t expect a BOW in your driveway. I do expect pieces of this thinking — flat load floors, modular battery packs, telematics-first fleet dashboards — to leak into commercial EVs you will see on incentive sheets eventually. Until Stellantis publishes range and price, treat BOW as a directional signal, not a product you can cross-shop against a Pacifica or ProMaster yet.
